Exam: After the course, typically on Fridays at the branch office of the Harbour Master's Office on the island of Krk.

In addition to the theoretical course, participants can also choose practical training on a sailing yacht or motorboat. The schedule is arranged individually, according to your availability and instructor availability.

Course Curriculum

1 Navigation & Regulations

  • Introduction to the exam and required topics
  • Basic navigation: chartwork, course, distance
  • Chart symbols, marks, lighthouses and buoys
  • Navigation lights and vessel signals
  • COLREG – collision avoidance rules
  • Basic navigation regulations, navigation zones, speed limits

2 Meteorology, Safety & VHF

  • Basic meteorology: winds, pressure, forecasts
  • Safe navigation planning
  • Seamanship knots and basic safety equipment
  • VHF radio: channels, procedures, MAYDAY / PAN-PAN / SECURITÉ
  • Exam preparation: review of typical questions and short exam simulation

What Licence Category B Authorises

  • Operation of a boat for passenger transport – 3 NM from the mainland or island coast
  • Authorisation to use a VHF radio station
  • Operation of a boat for personal purposes, navigation up to 12 NM from the mainland or island coast
  • Operation of a boat for personal purposes with propulsion power greater than 15 kW (minimum age 18)
  • Operation of a boat for cargo transport and fishing vessels, navigation in internal sea waters, waters accessible from the sea and the Adriatic Sea
  • Operation of yachts up to 18 meters chartered without crew
  • Operation of yachts up to 18 meters for personal purposes
